Unanswered: Pension woes of a senior citizen

I am a 72 year old senior citizen and wife of late Dr. P.K.Venkatasubramanian who retired from Nagapattinam.Tamil Nadu Medical services. He was getting his pension while we were settled in Chennai. For as long as he lived he literally served this community night and day. But after his demise, even after sending all the necessary documents to the concerned treasury, Treasury office,Dist Treasury,Collectorate complex,Nagapattinam 611001, and to the concerned bank, State Bank of India, Neela South street, Nagapattinam, his regular pension dues for nearly seven months is not being settled and my family pension has also not yet started. It’s already nearly 2 years. Both the bank and the treasury have not sent me a single written reply to date.
After much difficulty I located the phone numbers of these, and now the treasury is asking me to go there personally to collect for the first time. I now live in Dehradun, Uttarakhand with my daughter, and I have health problems which are not allowing me to travel such a long distance from Dehradun in Uttaranchal to Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu.

As for the regular pension dues of my late husband, the bank is saying the treasury is responsible, and the treasury points its fingers at the bank.
Under these circumstances I want to know how I can get my family pension, and my late husband’s regular pension dues. I want to know what is happening to my dues. Would someone tell me if I can use RTI for my problem and how to proceed further?
How am I supposed to lead a dignified life at this age without my rightful pension?

Re: Pension woes of a senior citizen

Nice to have U on this portal. Welcome. Yours is the fittest case for RTI punch. Please visit my BLOG on "ANY THING PENDING WITH GOVT?" and also RTI rules applicable to Tamil Nadu as posted by me in GUIDE SECTION [right hand top of this page] as your husband was with a TN govt run medical college. Address application to STATE PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER of the concerned tresury office by speed or regd ad post. Thing will move. If U do not get reply within 40 days of mailing, pl file first appeal as per my blog on FIRST APPEAL, with minor changes to suit TN rules as to fee payment etc.

Re: Pension woes of a senior citizen

Girija Madam,

Apart from filing a RTI application with the TN Treasury department, as suggested by jps50 in the above post, you can also file a RTI application with the bank (SBI) to know that status of the pension which has not been paid (arrears).
This application to SBI will have to be as per RTI Rules for the centre since SBI is a Public Authority under the Centre.

If you wish, please draft a RTI application and post it here so that our members can go through it and suggest changes, if any.

Re: Pension woes of a senior citizen

D.D. should be made in favour of ACCOUNTS OFFICER, Dist Treasury Office, Nagapattinam. I would not suggest rti appln to SBI, because it just credits pension to your account as and when received from tresury office. Thus Treasury Office is the paying authority of pension. If U can get a Rs.10/- non judicial court fee stamp of tamilnadu through your friend in TN, it is the best and cheapest option. D.Ds are costly and create problems regarding payee's name etc.U can have 3-4 stamps for future use also. U can also contact Helpline for TN: AID INDIA, Chennai 097898 19014.
