How to know the bank account details
Dear RTI Members,
I want to know that according to RTI Act,can i know the bank account details which was closed 20 years ago.Can you help me in this matter?

If the bank has still kept those records pertaining to that account, they will give them to you.
You have to be the account holder or a legal heir of the holder.

Most probably bank keeps the ledgers for 8 years. But there is no harm trying for it.
Ask for the certified photo copy of the ledger page pertaining to the account.

Dear RTI members,
I want to know that acc. to RTI act,the Govt. Banks should have record of accounts of 20 years ago or not? I am a legal heir of the holder and i want to know that acc.to RTI act,what is the limit of time period of getting records from banks?Plz. help.

RTI Act does not specify the period of time for which records have to be kept.
Each Public Authority keeps records as per its "record retention schedule".
You have to check that schedule for your bank.
