Mumbai: Screening of Movie - Ek Cup Chya
“Ek Cup Chya”
“Ek Cup Chya”, a Marathi film (with English sub-titles) screened by a
group of activists, has a unique subject – the Right To Information Act that
gives the common man the privilege to access government records. It is
an effective tool in raising awareness on RTI and its implementation. Made
by national award winning directors, Sumithra Bhave and Sunil Sukhtankar,
and produced by Yashwant Oak, it tells the story of a bus conductor from
Konkan who uses the Act to question authorities after he gets an inflated
electricity bill. Oak says the title ‘Ek Cup Chya’ is an allusion to corruption
in the government. “Chai paani has come to be synonymous with
corruption.”
The screening will be from 1730 to 2000 Hrs at IMC, Churchgate Station, Mumbai.

Forsaken by distributors, Marathi film to be screened through LCD projector
Dhule-based KS Wani Memorial Trust in Nashik has decided to screen their two-year-old marathi film Ek Cup Chya on corruption and mismanagement in the state-owned electricity company, through a LCD projector as no distributor has come forward for its release.
The film was also shown recently held in the international film festival in Goa and alos won best film award by Zee Marathi channel.
The film had received good publicity in a section of the press but due to the problem of getting a distributor it was not released.
According to trustees Gopal Kele, Jagannath Wani, and Yashwant Oak the film's premier show was held at Pune in December 2009.
The film was even shown to Anna Hazare at Ralegaon in Ahmednagar district and other social organisations recently.
Since no distributor came forward for the said film, we have now decided to screen the marathi film to social organisations or small groups in Maharashtra including Mumbai, who are against corruption, Kele said.
The story is about a honest bus conductor in state road transport corporation (MSRTC) receiving a big electricity bill of Rs73,000 following which he comes to know about the steep corruption in the electricity company. His struggle to get out of the muddle with the help of RTI forms the crux.
The film directed by Sunil Sukhthankar and Sumitra Bhave.
