I'm absolutely new and would like to know whether we can apply for RTI, online? Need some info from Registrar of Company (R.O.C.). Or is it neccessary to go personally for the same.

Welcome to this portal having 8800+ members.

Yes you can send a RTI application via e-mail followed by a hard copy of the application accompanied with fees. It saves a lot of time as the 30 day period will be counted from the date of receipt of e-mail. Mention in the e-mail that this is followed by a hard copy of the RTI Application along with the fees.

Can the rti link on the india.gov.in website be used for filing RTI Queries or is it just for filing of complaints in case u do not receive reply to your queries?

That is ONLY for :

1. RTI with CIC (to be followed by hard copy and fees using mail)
2. First Appeal with CIC
3. Second Appeal with CIC

You cannot use that link for any Public Authority in the centre or state for RTI application and First Appeal.

Hello Ganessh,

Online filing (including email) is still a distant reality in the realm of RTI.

But it is not always necessary to visit the particular PIO to submit the RTI Application. (if it involves seeking information from a central Public Authority viz. ROC)

There is another convinient way available to do that. You can go to the Nearest Designated Post Office and file your RTI Application there. Visit this link and find the Post Office nearest to your place.

Plz Remember that these Post Offices will only accept a certain Central Public Authorities, fortunately in your case it also includes Registrar of Companies.
