In a recent decision, the CIC has ruled that details of Rural Postal Insurance Scheme must be disclosed:

The ‘Rural Postal Insurance Scheme’ is a laudable scheme, which has been launched to provide financial support to the rural communities. Without disclosure of the details of the extent of its coverage, it would not be possible to assess whether the benefit of such a sound policy is reaching to the rural people, who are entitled for. Except for the individual details, the disclosure of information relating to the beneficiaries of ‘Rural Postal Insurance Scheme’ is, therefore, largely in public interest. The denial of information u/s 8(1) (j) of the Act is unjustified. The CPIO is, therefore, directed to provide the information asked for within 15 working days from the date of issue of this decision.
