Dhiraj, The date on the application is a must. Alternatively, do you have proof of date of despatch or date of receipt of the application by the PIO ? By receipt, do you mean receipt for the Passport application form ? You must have mentioned the application number or receipt number somewhere in the main body of the application. If too many days have not passed, just send a simple letter to the same PIO giving both the details. Refer to some details of your original application - so that it is easy for him to correlate the two. |

RTI India Welcomes you Dhiraj. What Do you mean by copy of Receipt? If it is application fee receipt, then it is likely to be rejected. OR, the PIO is considerable may ask you for the same.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes by receipt I mean the payment receipt. In the application I have mentioned my File ref. No which is A025851(Delhi). I have sent the RTI on 9th Aug through Speed Post. Till 11th August my online status was "Application pending for want of police report". On 12th when I checked the status it was blank as it is right now. When I did the tele-enquiry it says "Police report incomplete and the case is being examined". Dhiraj |

I would like to add one more thing. I have filed the RTI to the CPIO. Couple of days back I received a letter from CPIO stating my application had been transferred under sec 6(3) to the RPO Delhi as the postal order was in the name of RPO. Any Advice. Shall I file the RTI once again with all the correct information and attached receipt. Any suggestions are welcome. |

Dhiraj, Welcome to the forum. Be active on the forum and you will enrich your knowledge on RTI greatly. I am sure you will then learn to use RTI successfully and change the way you are governed. I have checked your application status, and it tells me that you have applied for passport on 03-07-2008 i.e. right now it is one and a half month from the date of application. Let me share my personal experience that in Mumbai it takes approximately two to three months from the date of application for getting the passport. More over here in Mumbai they have dedicated a 24 hour Police helpline MTNL tel no. 1090 on which one can know the exact status of police inquiry. I have used it and it works great. Pls find out, a similar police helpline service must be there in Delhi where you can call up and check the police inquiry status of your application. Also the online status does not always give the correct information even in Mumbai. But it does give correct information when the passport has been actually despatched, giving the details of speed post no, date of despatch etc. I suggest you can file a fresh RTI application or wait for another month.

| Thanks for the post. My issue is totally different. I belong to Kolkata and last year I applied for the passport through RPO kolkata in September. As I moved to Delhi during that time and my police verification was not successful due to my absent. After couple of month and writing several letter to RPO my file was transferred to Delhi on 12th June 08. I had to file the fresh application to RPO delhi but this time I was not charged the amount of Rs 1000. Now its almost 1 year since I first applied for the passport. I am totally disappointed and thought to file RTI and dont know what should I do next. ---------- Hi Abhi, As per your information I have my status from the Delhi police department and it says "Short Stay". Any Suggestion. Last edited by ganpat1956; 08-21-2008 at 10:13 PM. |

Hmmm.... I suggest you file a fresh RTI, there is no restriction on the number of RTI one can file, so you can file one more RTI, in fact on one occasion I had filed two RTI's with same subject but slightly different questions and I got the same reply for both of them in one single post.

The online registration form says: If you are not residing at the Present Address for the last one year, click on this box and furnish addresses of the other place(s) of residence in the last one year along with the duration(s) of living there. Short stay I am not sure what it means. You speak to the person and try and understand what he means by short stay.

I think you must go ahead and file a fresh RTI, pls check the passport office delhi website for the correct PIO to whom the query is to be addressed to avoid confusion. As I mentioned earlier there is no restriction on the number of RTI one can file. I have attached one simple form which you can download and start filling in directly in word format, so that you dont miss any important parameter, although RTI Act states it is not necessary to file a RTI application in any particular format. Pls find the form attached herewith. Pls dont forget to pay the necessary fee either by a court fee stamp or other prescribed ways applicable to your state.

Maybe you can file individual RTI query addressed to both of them simultaneously.

I have got the following information from the website of Banglore RPO. "Your police report says you have been at your current address for less than a year. We need clearance from all your previous addresses for the past one year, to be able to clear your file for issue of a passport. The other reports are still awaited. You may be required to follow up on those." What does they mean by the sentence "You may be required to follow up on those." Thanks, Last edited by Dhiraj; 08-22-2008 at 01:49 AM. |

There you are. You will need to get police clearence from your previous address/ addresses. As far as other reports are concerned the statement is not very clear. I suppose you will need to travel down to the passport office to expedite the matter and try and understand what all other reports they are waiting for. But first ask your friend / relative in Bangalore to visit the police station applicable to you and try and get the clearence from them.

Today once again I have filed the new RTI directed to CPIO. I believe I have made a mistake while submitting my passport application. I have missed to submit additional set of PP form along with my application as I have been at two places in last 1 year. Thanks, |

I would suggest you pay a visit to the passport office personally and try and understand the status of your application first hand. I have always found IAS officers who are at the top of the ladder more logical than other senior officers and staff at passport office. I was very satified with the way my query was resolved by IAS officer Mr. Kotalwar at the Mumbai office. If you want to expedite the matter and if the passport office is geographically easily accesible to you, go personally to the passport office, find out and meet the IAS officer to get a first hand information of the status of your application and understand from him as to the best way to resolve it.

my current status is "Passport will be ready on 09-09-2008 subject to all documents being in order. It will be dispatched by post on 10-09-2008". What does subject to all documents means? Is there any more delay? |

1) check the sataus after 10th Sep. 2) Sub. to all docs means police verification and enclosures. regards |

Congrats Dhiraj, I think you will receive your passport, a day here or there. The message means that your file is moving, there is no more logic to it than that.
