Thousands Go Scot-free as COPS dither NBAs as published in deccan chronicle August 21 A whooping 1,940 non-bailable warrants are pending with the state courts as of June 30, 2008. Add to it 2,642 people who are absconding till July 31, 2007 states a report by the office of Commissioner of Police Hyderabad. Surprisingly a number of MLA’s and prominent citizens find a place in the absconding list of the Police Department. Among them are MIM MLA Mr Afsar Khan, MIM MP Mr. Asauddin Owaisi and MLA Mr Mumtaz Ahmed Khan. While Mr Afsar Khan is wanted by the Asif nagar Police, Mr Muntaz Ahmed Khan is currently on a foreign trip. Their name are listed under category of non-bailable warrants and have been reportedly pending. The name of the former Assistant Commissioner of Gujarat Police, Mr Narender Amin, was lodged with saifabad police station in connection with a crime committed in 2004. His case number is 883/2004. In a letter dated August 6, 2008. The Public Information Officer and Joint Commissioner of Police (Administration), Hyderabad has stated that the reasons for not taking action against the absconders are “ either not available at the given address or having changed their residences since the time of being booked under the crime” . “With the season of festivals soon to begin in the city, many of the people who feature prominently in the wanted list will roam freely on the streets. It is the responsibility of the police stations to arrest them.” Mr Amjadullah Khan Khalid Ex-Comparator who had applied for information about the same under Right to Information Act 2005 told this correspondent.
