Unanswered: Traffic One way rules

Here at Chennai, the travel directions (i.e. one way rules) of main roads are often changed by traffic police. Leading to extra burden of travelling 2-3 kms due to these one way rules. They don't care to inform public in advance also. I don't know whether they have any survey in hand for diverting traffic. Recently a road at CIT nagar, was made one way unnecessarily. People have to travel 2 kms to reach the same point. other places where they have diverted traffic without much publicity or short notice of 1 day is in mambalam, guindy etc.

can we question these traffic changes ?

Re: Traffic One way rules

Yes you can. The decision to declare a road as one way etc is taken by dc, sp traffic, or commissioner of police. It is suggested that you file an RTI application to the Traffic Wing of your city. In that question the decision. Suggested qs are

1. When was the road XXX made one way.
2. Which authority authorized the decision.
3. What protocols or guidelines exist for the said authority to make such decisions.
4. Kindly provide copy of such protocols or guidelines.
5. What study/survey is conducted before taking such a decision.
6. Which PA is responsible for taking this survey/study.
7. Kindly provide me with a copy of such a study/survey conducted for the road XXX.
8. Kindly provide me a copy of all documents related to the decision making process in declaration of the road xxx as one way.
