4 additional information commissioners are likely to be appointed at CIC shortly. High Courts are having benches in different cities of the states. Maharashtra Info Commission is having benches at 5 places in the state. State Consumer Forums also have benches. I suggest that CIC should have benches in three metro cities viz Chennai/Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkatta

I think setting up benches will not be practical for the following two reasons.

1. Due to the peculiar nature of Work Distribution, it is not possible for the regional bench to handle all the cases.
2. There will be clamour for more such benches at other places too.

Instead Video/Tele conferencing is a better way to do it imho.

Lack of Benches is not a problem area in CIC. Now the CIC is holding hearing by video conference very successfully. I think, he is connected with almost all State Capitals with video conferencing facility. The notice for hearing issued by the CIC specifically give the address , name and telephone number of the person at the NIC for contacting for further guidance. This is more than enough.
