Convention on RTI

Shillong, Jan. 25: The third Right to Information (RTI) convention of the National Campaign for People’s Right to Information (NCPRI) will start here from March 10-12.

The Meghalaya Right to Information Movement has offered to host the event. The NCPRI has chosen the city to host the convention here to provide an opportunity to the participants to learn from the experiences of the Northeast in the use of the Right to Information Act.

The convention comes after five years of the utilisation of the RTI, which has empowered the people in varying degrees.

The RTI activists groups in Shillong as well as other parts of the country are already planning programmes and the logistics of the convention.

It has also been proposed that the convention will be inaugurated with a festival of RTI plays and songs, with a strong focus on Meghalaya and its culture. Since the introduction of the RTI, a large number of songs, slogans, political lampoons and theatre, both formal and street plays, were showcased during campaign meetings.
