Unhappy Unanswered: Passport woes

I applied for renewal of my passport on June 20th and though the government site says it would take a month to get the passport, its been two months and not even police verification has happened. Is there a way to get things speeden up without shelling out money?

Re: Passport woes

Dear Vishal,

From my personal experience it takes 2 1/2 to 3 months for renewal of passport in Mumbai, I have no idea about Chennai.

Government sites are nowhere near perfect, what they say and claim and why they say is a question mark and there is no logical answer to that.

You will have to go by what practically is the time period prevailing in your locality.

Also police verification is not necessary when you apply for renewal, so you may receive the renewed passport within the practical time period prevailing in your locality.

Thanks for being with this portal having 10000+ members all over India. My own experience shows that in renewal also police verification is done. I also invite you to visit my blog at http://www.rtiindia.org/forum/blogs/...-passport.html

Re: Passport woes

I had recently applied for the renewal of my wife, daughter and son's passport on the same day. My son has turned 16 yrs and I am not sure about the logic, maybe he has now grown up from being a child, but his application came for Police verification whereas my wife and daughter's application did not come for Police verification.

I in fact visited the Police station a couple of times to verify what happened to my wife and daughter's application, because my son's application had come.

After going through some anxious days, I learnt about Police helpline number in Mumbai, 1090 from MTNL landline, where they inform you about the status of the application with Police.

The Police personnel online tel no. 1090 told me, that for renewal most of the times Police verification is not necessary, only in some cases it comes for verification, and my wife and daughter's application has not come to him, whereas my son's application had come, has been approved and forwarded to the passport's office.

I received renewed passport of my wife & daughter exactly after 1 1/2 months and son after 2 1/2 months.
