How does Invites in RTI India works

I happen to view the link: http://www.rtiindia.org/forum/invites.php

One thing I noticed with this is that, it fetches all the email ID's of our hotmail/yahoo/aol and GMAIL and simply by clicking on to them send a invitation mail to them. Also I figured out that, it keep track of number of invitations.

I was wondering, if it is something like GMAIL invitation, why visitors are able to directly register. My guess is that it has been here so that new members only join through invitation; is it?

Hello,
Yes the purpose is to bring in your friends and we reward you with the reputation point. The original plan was to only invite people by invitation and no direct registration; but to keep the RTI spirit here too, we had decided to let both the ways open.
