Couple of weeks back I received a letter from the MBMC (Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation) with respect to notice for non payment of Local Body tax. the tax rate they specified was 3 % along with 2 % interest per month from the date of purchase.
I had purchased my car in Aug 2010 and at that time I had specifically asked all the dealers about the octroi. Almost all of them had told me that the octroi was abolished. But the MBMC guys tell me that the octroi was always there and i should have checked with them before purchasing the car.
Since last few days i am trying to find out more of what exactly had happened w r t the octroi but couldn't get any information.
If any of you guys have any information, can you please share it with me. Paying the octroi is not an issue, but i dont want to pay the interest on that.
