3 months, no passport.
On January 28th, I applied for renewal of my passport (Hyderabad) via regular application by paying Rs1000/-
It has been almost 3 months now and there is no sign of it yet. The Passport Status page says: "Police Report has not been received.". However, I have not yet been contacted by anyone from the police department yet. My watchman one day (about 3 weeks ago) told me that there was a police officer who visited during my office hours, and agreed to come back at 7PM the very day. But, I'm yet to see any police officer visit my house after that. No one has called on my mobile number which was furnished with the application.
I'm in no hurry to get my passport, which is why I opted for the regular renewal and not Tatkal, but 3 months is way too long. Are there rules set by the passport office for processing the application within X days? Where can I find these rules and regulations? Also, I'm sure who ever visits from the police dept would want "chai and pani" to get things moving which I absolutely detest. I'd like to not pay a rupee to anyone as bribe if that is possible without getting sucked into our system of loopholes.
My question to you is to whom should I direct my RTI application(s) now? Passport office or the police department or both? What do I ask them? FYI, I filed 2 RTI applications for other purposes before so I'm quite aware of the process of application. I would need to fetch Lallaguda police station address, and need to find out which passport office to send the application to, among other things.
Appreciate your help, really!
Sanjay

Re: 3 months, no passport.
OK , got it.
Opposite the IMAX theatre there is a new building.
There is a Special Branch there and the policeman for passport verification comes from there.
Make a visit there and if nothing materialises, use RTI.

Re: 3 months, no passport.
My police verification was done last week Sunday by someone who supposedly arrived from the Special Branch. Took Rs.100 for petrol and 'other' things, although he asked from Rs200. I paid since I did not want to pick up a fight or get into an argument. I felt ashamed, but had no choice.
The passport status page still says "Police report not received", not sure how long they take to update it. I plan to go for RTI after waiting for 2 more weeks for the status to change.

Re: 3 months, no passport. Okay, more than 15 days since my report was submitted to the passport office according to Hyderabad Police website. See this: http://i53.tinypic.com/adjbsz.png
However, the passport status page still says "Police Report has not been received"
I'm running out of patience on this one as it has been 4 months already. What do you think I should do now? Go and waste my time running around the Regional Passport Office, or send an RTI application?
If sending an RTI, I think it'd make sense to first gather evidence from Police for the report dispatch and then send that proof to Regional Passport office? Is that right?
Please help
Thanks,
Sanjay
