Information Officer for Press Club

Thiruvananthapuram: The State Information Commission (SIC) has directed the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club to appoint a State Public Information Officer.

This direction is in lieu of holding the Press Club to be a public authority under the provisions of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

Public Authority

Chief Information Commissioner Palat Mohandas and Information Commissioner V.V. Giri said in their order on a petition filed by journalist Ajaya Kumar that the Press Club had received funds from the State government in 2003-2004 and 2007-2008 and hence should be considered a public authority.

The newly-appointed Information Officer should provide the information sought by Mr. Ajaya Kumar within 30 days of his appointment.

Mr. Ajaya Kumar had sought information on the minutes of meetings of the managing committee and general body.
