A Bureau report in zeenews.com on 03 October 2008: Zee News - Regularisation of Delhi`s unauthorised colonies contempt of court `Regularisation of unauthorised colonies contempt of court` New Delhi, Oct 03: Ahead of Saturday's rally to distribute provisional regularisation certificates to unauthorised colonies in the city, BJP on Friday said it will be contempt of court as both Supreme Court and Delhi High Court had banned regularisation of these colonies. "If any provisional or any other certificate is issued for the regularisation of these colonies then it would be open contempt of both the Courts and such certificates would have no legal validity," Delhi BJP President Harsh Vardhan said. Congress President Sonia Gandhi will distribute provisional regularisation certificates tomorrow to unauthorised colonies at a rally which is seen as launch of the party's campaign for the coming Delhi Assembly elections. Referring to information obtained through RTI from the Urban Development Department of Delhi, Vardhan said there are two cases pending in the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court regarding regularisation of unauthorised colonies in Delhi. The Delhi High Court on October 13, 1993 and the Supreme Court under its order dated February 14, 2006 have banned regularisation of the unauthorised colonies till they are provided with all the basic amenities, Vardhan said in a statement. The city government is planning to highlight regularisation of over 1,400 unauthorised colonies as major achievement among others. This is nothing but an evil attempt of the Congress Government to mislead lakhs of residents of unauthorised colonies for securing their votes in the Assembly elections, Vardhan said. |
