hi

Hi
My father has been retired from railways in 1/9/96, and died at 1998. I dont know whether he opts for 40% commutation or not but letter for recieving the comutation value has been prepared and submmit by authorities at our address. cheque has been also prepared but it is not encashed at my mother's A/C, who will take the family pension at that time.
Sir, where should i put up the querry by means of ITR and what are the rules.
PLZ see the attachement.

The commuted amount is generally issued along with other pensionery claims more or less immediately on retirement around 1996in this case. Since your father has expired only in 1998 he would have taken appropriate action in case it was not received along with the other amounts. If you have any doubt contact the Bank where his all other pensionery benefits like gratuity etc., were credited. First reconcile the total pensionery benefits credited in the bank. It is likely that this might have been included in one of those credits. If you find that the amount is not reconciling, it will be better if you could approach the Accounts Section who issued the above orders in person along with the reconciled figure instead of getting into prolonged correspondence or even RTI at this stage
