    Yes.

    You need to frame your query for information which is held by that Public Authority. Other wise you will not get the info.

    Thx.. I searched a lot on forums before filing my RTI application and everywhere is called "ledger extract". any tips on how to know what's teh official name of the information held by an Authority, as I have no clue being an outsider.

    The information and records which is held by a Public authority can only be sought.

    Section 2(f) "information" means any material in any form, including records, documents, memos, e-mails, opinions, advices, press releases, circulars, orders, logbooks, contracts, reports, papers, samples, models, data material held in any electronic form and information relating to any private body which can be accessed by a public authority under any other law for the time being in force;
    Section 2(i) "record" includes—
    (a) any document, manuscript and file;
    (b) any microfilm, microfiche and facsimile copy of a document;
    (c) any reproduction of image or images embodied in such microfilm (whether enlarged or not); and
    (d) any other material produced by a computer or any other device;

    Re: information not available - pf ledger

    Thank you for your reply, the amazing work you all have done via this website is highly appreciated.

    My reply to this post is for me to understand things better on my end and not to debate, having said that let me try to explain my situation again.

    I want from PF office how much money I and my employer have deposited over many years including interest etc.

    In my mind it can be called a ledger and hence I asked for a copy of my PF ledger extract in my RTI. However I believe PF office call the same information "Statement of Accounts".

    According to my understanding both "Ledger extract" and "Statement of Accounts" are two different names for information/records(I may be wrong?)

    When I requested for the "Ledger Extract" PIO reply was "Information not available hence cannot be provided" and hence in my second RTI I am trying with "Statement of Accounts" instead.

    my question is how do i know whether to ask for "Ledger Extract" or "Statement of A/c" or anything else as the term used to refer my PF record is not known to me ?
