Unfair 'No Parking' cancelled

In Pune, we have Multiplex known as City Pride, Kothrud. In order to streamline parking Pune Municipal Corporation granted free, additional FSI to Multiplex Cinema's.

City Pride Multiplex, Kothrud is charging Rs. 30.0 as parking charges for four wheeler and Rs. 10.0 for parking charges for two wheeler.

City Pride, Kothrud it seems in connivance with Traffic Police and Pune Municipal Corporation declared the abutting municipal road as '' No Parking'' area. It must be noted that this road is around 25 to 30 Meters wide and does not have much of vehicular traffic. Hence there is no need and requirement to declare the road as ''No Parking''.

As per opinion of citizens these parking charges levied by Multiplex are unfair and unjustified and on the other hand they do not have freedom to park the vehicles on the road side, free of charge.

Sajag Nagrik Manch under Right to Information Act sought information as to ''Who raised objection and / or suggestion'' for declaring the road as ''No Parking''. We were informed that there is no objection / suggestion received by Pune Traffic Police regarding this issue. It was sole decision of Pune Traffic Police.

Sajag Nagrik Manch gathered over 1000 citizens signatures and submitted to Traffic Police Pune to declare this particular road as ''Parking P1 / P2''. We are glad that public pressure has yielded in good results and the road is declared as ''Parking P1 / P2''.

Ultimately, the citizens have succeeded in stopping ''Parking Loot''. The aim of this communication is to share the success story by citizens and RTI.
