SIC seeks clarification from temple

LUCKNOW: The State Information Commission heard the Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust case and issued instructions to the office-bearers to answer the remaining queries of complainant Shatrudra Prakash. The hearing took place in the court of information commissioner Virendra Saxena on Monday. The next date for hearing is July 5.

Prakash had sought information on a number of issues related to the Trust and its financial transactions. Even as most of the information sought was furnished to the satisfaction of the complainant, some issues still need to be sorted out. Prakash wanted to know the fate of Sanskritik Sankul, which was meant for some cultural activities in the temple. He has alleged that Rs 7 lakh was withdrawn as expenses for Sanskritik Sankul but nothing came out of it. "I want to know what it is. Is it a building, an organisation or something else? Where did the funds go?'' he asked.

The complainant has also asked for details of the gold and silver that is offered to the deity in Kashi Vishwanath. "I also want to know about the marble, estimated to be worth Rs 12 lakh, that was used in the temple and its surroundings,'' Prakash said. Advance payment was made to some of the Trust members for travel and other expenses and this has also come under the scanner.

The name of the Evaluator of his firm, appointed by the trust, has also been sought by Prakash. The trust was represented by ADM, law and order, Varanasi, Amarnath Upadhyaya who is also the acting CEO of the trust. Others from the trust were its chartered accountant and ACEO.
