PIO is not a mere post office

The CIC had penalised the PIO and the "deemed" PIO, Rs 12,500 each for delay and incorrect information. The main PIO approached the High Court praying that he was the PIO and had sought assistance from the deemed PIO. The information provided by the deemed PIO was duly sent to the applicant. The delay was of the deemed PIO and he had merely passed on whatever information given to hiom , to the applicant.

Delhi HC upheld the order of the CIC penalising both PIO and deemed PIO stating that the PIO has to peruse whether the information being supplied is pertinent or not and that PIO is not a mere post office.
