Unhappy This CPIO lied in his reply!

On 24-Oct-2011 I filed a complaint on SBI website due to misbehaviour of the branch manager. On 15-Nov-2011 I sent an RTI application which was received on 17-Nov-2011. The CPIO sent his reply on 14-Jan-2012 which was received by me on 17-Jan-2012, after the 30 days time limit expired.

Here are the queries of my RTI app:

    Kindly provide the-:

    1. Certified copies of all the communications (both electronic and print) between various SBI officials mentioning the online complaint no. CC-xxxxxxxxxxx.

    2. Certified copies of all the communications (both electronic and print) between various SBI officials on and after 22-Oct-2011 mentioning only name <complaiant's name> and not mentioning any complaint no.

    3. Status of the online complaint no. CC-xxxxxxxxxx.

    4. Certified copy of the file noting related to the above complaint.

    5. Name and designation of the officer(s) assigned for taking action on the above complaint.

    6. Name and designation of the employee(s) held responsible for the above complaint.

    7. Certified copy of the action taken report with reference to the above complaint.

    8. Certified copy of the report sent to the RBI Banking Ombudsman with reference to the above complaint.

    9. Total number of complaints filed and resolved against SBI-<branch name> till date.

    10. Total number of SBI Yuva Visa debit cards issued by SBI-<branch name> since 2006.

    11. Total number of Internet banking kits issued by SBI-<branch name> since 2006.

    12. Total number of accounts (both saving and current) opened at SBI-<branch name> since 2006.

    Here is his reply:-

1, 2 and 4. Due to virus attack in our computer and network system we are unable to retrieve this info.

    3. Online complaint no. CC-xxxxxxxxxx was related to ATM. We have sent you an ATM card.

    5. Mr. J. Verma, Accountant

    6. Nobody

    7. Please obtain the certified copy from the branch by depositing appropriate charges at the branch.

    8. We would like to inform you that with regard to this no report is sent to RBI's Banking Ombudsman.

    9. to 12 The information asked by you comes u/s 8(1)(d) and 8(1)(j) of the RTI act.

Now, They have clearly answered only one name Mr. Verma but he retired from service in Dec-2011. And the branch manager in his official email dated 04-Nov-2011 apologized to me for rude behaviour. The complaint was filed under heading 'Misbehaviour at branch'. And the CPIO is saying it was for ATM!

How can a CPIO get away like this after giving false info on record?

Write a email to the Chairman of the Bank, enclosing this reply of the CPIO.
Clearly tell him that you will go to the media and inform them about the country's largest Bank systems being infected by a virus.
That should give a "boost" to lot of customers confidence in that Bank.

The email to the chairman and Board of directors is already in process. Should I also Cc to Business Line, Economic Times, investors, Secy finance etc.?

First send the email to the Chairman and clearly tell him to haul up that CPIO.
If no response, go to media.

Re: This CPIO lied in his reply!

    To:
    Chairman,
    SBI

Subject: Security of personal information and deposits in the bank

As an account holder of State Bank of India and as a concerned citizen I would like to draw you kind attention to an immediate problem. In a belated response to my RTI application dated 15-Nov-2011 the CPIO in his letter replied that certain information cannot be obtained because the computer system of the branch (Code: xxxxx) was affected due to a virus attack, and hence the records are unavailable. Also, in reply to my another RTI query dated 22-Nov-2011 the CPIO replied that there are no CCTV cameras installed in the said branch.
I am appalled by the revelations of the CPIO and my concern is shared by other depositors too. This paints a scary picture where we feel that our financial and personal information are not safe with the bank and could lead to financial loss and invasion of privacy. There are no CCTV cameras installed which is another shock for me, these days even ATMs have cameras for security reasons. I request you to take necessary action in this regard and direct the CPIO to furnish full details and arrange proper security at the bank premises. I am already in the process of transferring my funds to other bank.

    Enclosed copy of:
    1. My RTI application dated 15-Nov-2011
    2. CPIO’s reply Sr. No. xxxxxx dated 14-Jan-2012
    3. My RTI application dated 22-Nov-2011
    4. CPIO’s reply Sr. No. xxxxxxx dated 14-Jan-2012

How is the draft? Please advise.
