No knowledge of RTI Act is not an excuse for delay
In a recent order IC DS has imposed the maximum penalty of Rs 25,000 on the CPIO of LIC and not accepted his contention that he was new PIO and did not have knowledge of the RTI act 2005.

This is a superb fete on the part of the commission to clamp penalty on CPIO of LIC of India. This may create a great impact on the parts of other CPIO appointed in different PA.Sponsorer

Thankfully, it is a few decisions such as the one mentioned above by karira that keeps the hopes of spirited citizens alive. One can only hope that more and more CICs and SICs issue more of such decisions penalizing delinquent PIOs and contribute to making the RTI truly and completely effective in bringing tranparency and justice into the domain of Indian governance.
