<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=470><TBODY><TR><TD class=black-head-news vAlign=top align=left colSpan=2 height=25>NGOs may be brought under RTI Act: Report</TD></TR><TR><TD class=text colSpan=2 height=25>NEW DELHI (ICNS): Non-governmental organizations may soon be brought under the provisions of Right To Information Act. </TD></TR><TR><TR vAlign=top align=left><TD class=text colSpan=2 height=26>The Hindustan Times reported on Monday, “Voluntary organisations (VOs) will soon have to comply with provisions of the RTI Act that require “proactive disclosures” of assets and expenditures.” The report also said the central government was looking at enacting a federal law for registration of NGOs. “The move follows numerous complaints regarding the outdated ways of funding schemes, arbitrary procedures and misuse of funds by NGOs,” it said. The move comes a few weeks after the central government passed a new policy for NGO sector. As of now, the revolutionary RTI act applies only to governmental and quasi-governmental bodies.
