Service book, GPF and Pension details of deceased to be provided to legal heir
CIC has ruled that copies of service book, GPF and pension details of a deceased person can be provided to a legal heir.
I have given a serious thought to the matter. In my opinion,
a son can not be treated as third party when he seeks information about the
pensionary benefits of his deceased father. If he were to be so treated, he, (the
successor) would be deprived of financial benefits due to him. In this view of the
matter, we are of the opinion that there is no harm in providing requisite
information to the appellant. This order is being pronounced only with a view to
enabling the appellant to ensure that the pensionary and other benefits resulting
from the death of his father accrue to the family. In this view of the matter, the
CPIO’s order is set-aside and he is hereby directed to disclose requested
information to the appellant. It is, however, clarified that CPIO will provide this
information to the appellant only if he proves that he is the son of deceased Shri
