Reward pending since June 1999

I have given an information to Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence Mumbai zonal unit regarding evasion of duty by one manufacturer in June 1999. The DGCEI officers acted and booked cases against him. I have been given small amount of advance reward long back. Yet no final reward is settled till date. Can I ask for the details of the case and orders passed? Can I ask for the settlement of reward amount by filing an application under RTI? OR should I go for it by way of Writ Petition in Mumbai High Court? Kindly guide.

Yes u can file a RTI application with Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence Mumbai .Make sure that the RTI application should be according to the Central information comission rules.

There have been several similar RTI applications to CBDT, CBEC and others where informers have not been properly rewarded. As far as I remember, all have gone in favour of the applicants.

In order to make a "fool proof" RTI application, it will be advisable if you do a search on the CIC website (CIC) for similar cases at the CIC. It will help you in drafting a good application and also knowing what pitfalls to avoid.
