HI to all-sales tax payment receipt not received
Hi all

I had come across RTI while surfing on the net and it was also referred by a colleague.
I work for a Pvt limited organization and head the pre-sales division.
We are facing a peculiar problem at our regional office at Chennai, regarding the receipt for payment of sales tax.
The department has not been providing a formal receipt for the tax payment and on repetitive enquiry from our side, the response was negative.
Is it not a practice to provide receipts for sales tax payments?
Whom or which deparment should we approach to resolve this issue?
can anyone guide us please?

Christopher,
You must be paying VAT, not Sales Tax.
When you file the VAT return every month, you must be paying the VAT by Cheque/DD/Challan. The details of the Cheque/DD/Challan are entered on the VAT form. You get a stamped copy from the CTO's office after submission. That is your receipt.

Thank you for the quick and useful response!
We were not receiving this stamped copy of the VAT form either but a stamped page copy of the letter out book maintained at the the CTO's office. However, after your response, we spoke to the concerned dept and after much discussion, received a favorable response to provide a stamped copy of the VAT form.
