KOCHI: Around 582 vigilance cases are pending against government officials and public servants, the state government informed the Human Rights Defence Forum (HRDF) in response to a right to information ( RTI) petition filed by the forum.
The government informed that it has already given permission to prosecute government officials and public servants in 55 cases, which include cases against police officials, department heads, doctors, panchayat presidents and secretaries.
In a press release issued, D B Binu, general secretary of HRDF, said that the Supreme Court had ruled in the 2G Spectrum case that if the government failed to take a decision on the application seeking permission to prosecute a particular official or public servant, the investigation agencies can proceed with their action.
He alleged that the state government has violated this ruling since in many cases investigating agencies were not given permission. The government has not yet taken a decision on the application seeking permission to prosecute Kumily grama panchayat president Abdul Salam and secretary Dharmapalan till now.
It has also not taken a decision on the application seeking permission to prosecute the assistant director of agriculture department N C Krishnan Kumar and UD clerk E M Indira, the forum members said in a statement.
The government informed the Human Rights Defence Forum in response to a right to information petition filed by the forum, that it has already given permission to prosecute government officials and public servants in 55 cases, which include cases against police officials, department heads, doctors, panchayat presidents and secretaries
