RTI for Address proof of another person

    Hi,

My Sis-In-Law is fighting domestic violence case, and court has said that the husband's address she has provided is wrong. The fact is it is right and now they are asking for address proof of her husband. She does not have any address proof of her husband since she left the house with nothing after great deal of tourture. She has her bank statements for that address, but since it is in her name it is not valid. It is possible to get the address proof of the husband like Utility bill or something else by filing RTI?

Yes, utility bills like Electricity bills or water bills or Property tax bills are to be disclosed under RTI.
But you have to be sure that those meters or property is in the name of the husband and not someone else.

File a RTI application with the relevant PIO of the Electricity department, Water department or Municipal Corporation.
Ask for "Certified copy of Electricity Bill for........(address) for the months of......."

Details of PIO will be available on the website of the organisation/department, under the "RTI" link. Or simply call that office and ask "Who is the PIO in your office under the RTI Act 2005. I want to file a RTI application." ?

Your RTI Application has to be as per the RTI Rules and Fees for your State.
These are available in the Guide section of the Portal: RTI Guide

Please read the other articles in the Guide section as well as the links given in the FAQ here: RTI FAQ

These will be of help to you during the RTI process.
