The delay in providing information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act hasproved costly as the state Information Commission has summoned the MCCommissioner for personal appearance before it commission on August 23.
RTIactivist Kuldeep Singh Khaira of the Vigilance Citizen Forum had sought theservice record of assistant town planner (ATP) Nirmal Preet Singh, now postedin Patiala. Even after more than 10 months, he has failed to get theinformation.
Khairahad sought details of Nirmal’s assets and liabilities at the time of joiningservice, copy of annual income tax returns, details of assets of Rs 10,000 andabove purchased during service period, salary slips, list of movable andimmovable assets on official records, details of posting records from the dateof joining duty, details of promotions, charge sheets against him, copy of hisservice book, details of complaints received against him throughout his career,action taken on those complaints and file notings, statements or evidencerecorded and reports, opinions and advice generated in relation to thecomplaints.
AfterKhaira failed to get the information, he had approached the InformationCommission. “The appellant states that he filed an application on September 28last year, but after a lapse of 10 months, no information has been provided.The first appellate authority-cum-MC Commissioner, PIO at office of Director,Local Bodies, and PIO at office of Director, local government branch-I, aredirected to be present on the next date of hearing, along with the informationas sought, failing which action will be initiated,” read the order issued byInformation Commissioner Harinder Pal Singh Mann. The case was adjourned to 11am on August 23 for further proceedings.
