Unanswered: Passport RTI

Hi,
I need help. My friend has applied for the passport in Aug-08 and has not recieved till now. The passport website shows "Police Verification report has not been recieved", but the police website shows "Police Verification Clear and sent to RPO".
So I found your website to file RTI and downloaded the sample Passport RTI form and submitted the RTI.
But as a confirmation I only have the Indian Postal Order Number and its already 10 days and I have not recieved any reply.

How do I check the status of my RTI with the postal order number?

Re: Passport RTI

In case of non-receipt of communication from the passport authority with in the prescribed time limit of 30 days, you may file an application to the First Appellate Authority. Please for a month.

Re: Passport RTI

Ahmed ji

CPIO/PIO will reply you
RTI procedure is :
1. RTI Application with Fee to PIO
2. If no reply/ not satisfied with reply in 30 (or 35 days in case of submission to APIO or under Section 6(3)),
First Appeal to the First Appellate Authority (normally a officer higher than the PIO)
3. If no reply/ not satisfied with reply in 45 days to the First Appeal, then Second Appeal to the CIC/SIC (time period is 90 days)

Possibly this info will be of good help to you

Re: Passport RTI

Ambrish, Thanks for the information. I will wait for 30 days and see the result.
You were asking for the type of postal I did. Do we have to send through registered post/Speed post or any thing is fine?

Application must be sent by Registered or Speed post so that you have a proof of delivery. If you send by ordinary post or private courier, the PIO may deny having received any application and you will have no proof. Alternatively, you can go to the PIO's office and give your application after receiving due acknowledgement.

Re: Passport RTI

Ahmed ji

Please have patience

Wait for 35 days from the date of your application (30 days for reply + 5 days to take care of transit delays). If you dont receive any reply by then, you can presume that it has not been replied and proceed to file the first appeal.

For help please see the link/s given below:

Re: Passport RTI

Thanks bro for the info.
I will follow the procedure.

All I wanted to say was, I was looking for faster results from RTI instead of applying for different things agian and again.

Re: Passport RTI

Ahmed Bhai,
I understand that every citizen wants to get information in time. But the scrupulous government officers try their best to avoid giving information otherwise they become accountable for their misdeeds. Many PIOs think that the citizen would not be knowing much about RTI and would not take the trouble of filing appeal. They provide information immediately after an appeal is filed but not before that.
I would advise you not to lose patience and to follow your application to the logical conclusion. RTI is still in its nascent stage. If every citizen makes it a point to follow every RTI application till the end, PIOs will not dare to avoid giving replies.
