VADODARA: A lawyer from the city who has also taken up civic issues in the past and even motivated people to file a public interest litigation to get better civic amenities has taken up the cause of better infrastructure at the court premises. He has even sought information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act regarding the action taken on his suggestions.
Veteran lawyer Kanubhai Pandya has since last year taken up the issue traffic woes in the busy Nyay Mandir area. In this area the Nyay Mandir has the civil, district and sessions court while the Lal Court in the same locality is largely a complex meant for crime courts.
Pandya said that litigants and advocates had to move form one the Nyay Mandir to Lal Court frequently. He added that due to heavy traffic in the locality, this was difficult and the area also witnessed minor accidents.
To take care of the woes, Pandya has suggested that a traffic point should come up at a cross road in the locality to regulate traffic. He has also suggested that a skywalk be made connecting both the courts for pedestrians. He has also demanded that railings should be installed in the stairwells of the court premises.
As a follow up of his letters, Pandya sought details of correspondence done by the officials for working on the problems under RTI Act. The information was initially turned down, but Pandya appealed against it and the appellate authority has ruled in his favour.
