Some Practical Facts about RTI

Posted 10-23-2008 at 03:27 PM by Dr. M. Faiyazuddin
Dear Members,

I started using RTI in Various departments only to know some facts as well as to see how much importance PIOs pay to this law. But the results are shocking in the sense that most of the PIOs either fail to respond the RTI applications until appeals are made or prove misleading information when the deadline to reply comes close. In such a situation it is difficult for a common man to obtain information easily. Secondly, if a person uses RTI against his or her own department he is likely to be harassed and victimised. Some people suggest to use RTI in the name of distant relative but the follow up action in this case becomes too difficult.Anyway, I am not discouraging you. What I want to say is that we have a long distance to go to make RTI highly useful. Thanks.

I started it from my very own department.Currrently i am severly victimised but it cant deter me. After all it was my decison, my self respect. I am happy i did it rather than thinking over it again & again all over my life.

    RTI Rules....but file it sensibly.

I agree with Dr. M. Faiyazuddin there has been cases reported in the media and many more remain unnoticed of the victimisation by the concerned authority, even I come in contact with a few people who ask me to file a complaint on their behalf but I always suggest them to fight for their rights unless there is a severe repercussion expected.
