Posted 05-28-2008 at 06:05 AM by inderjit
Does anyone know how many years the police are rquired to keep FIRs?
Are FIRs kept at the local police station?
Are there dtstrict and state-wide registers of FIRs?
Is it possible to get copies of FIRs under the RTI?
Thanks for your replies

But what information will they require applicant to provide
- Name(s) of persons against whom the FIR is registered?
- Date of registration
- Place or police station where registered
What happens if I don't have all this information? Or simply know the alleged offender(s) name(s) and no specific dates and only possible areas where offences took place?
Please advise.

I have posted my enqueries under RTI with Home Ministry New Delhi, refering to FIR No. 329/06 – PS Shahadra – u/s 498A/406/ IPC & 3, 4 DP Act. I have asked for all related copies of complaints and action taken reports, to ensure the Police Department may not ignore the requests.Posted 06-16-2008 at 07:19 PM by Jagat Kishore Sharma
