| Any citizen can ask for information under these laws.The Act extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir. OCI's (Overseas Citizens of India) and PIO's (Persons of Indian Origin) card holders can also ask for information under the RTI Act. For citizens, OCI's and PIO's who are staying out of India, the RTI Application can be filed with the PIO of the local Indian Embassy/Consulate/High Commission and they will inform you regarding the amount of application fee in local currency as well as the mode of payment. | |||||||

| Re: Who can ask for information under Right to Information? I had helped a friend to file an rti application with a PSU bank. The rti application was filed on the letter head of my friend's firm. The PIO has replied that RTI does not cover " virtual persons" Can any one help me out in this aspect? |

Hi Mr. Pandit, Its true that only a citizan can ask information under RTI Act and as per interpretation, citizen means an individual only. You may ask ur frnd to file a fresh application under RTI Act asking same information on a plain paper and if that infomation is in public interest then also mention these Golden Words " Information is sought in Public Interest". I hope this will help u out. |

| Re: Who can ask for information under Right to Information? i am living in a society which is not registered....i just want to know that what we can do if anyone in society put illegal sheds on open terrace..is there anyway to find out thats its illegal or not ...please help me out... information is sought in public interest |
