    RTI in UTI Bank

    Hello,

This is my first Posting and first initiation to the wonderful world of RTI.

I need some information from the UTI Bank. But I have found out that this Bank has not implemented RTI yet.

How shall I Proceed with filing application under RTI to UTI bank?

    Regards,

    Sidharth

    Hello Sidharth,

UTI Bank is the first among the new generation private banks in this country and it does not come under the definition of Public Authority in terms of Sec. 2(h) of the RTI Act. No wonder, the RTI is not implemented in UTI bank.

However if you care to tell us the precise nature of the problem or the information that you seek, our members may be able to help you out with their suggestions.

    Regards,
    Ganpat

    Hello Ganpat,

    Thanks for your reply.
Just because it's a "new generation private banks" does not any way mean that it will come under the RTI Act. We must analyse it's management structure first to see whether it's Substantially controlled or financed by the Govt.

Have a look at this link.

I am also aware of the structure of the promoters of UTI bank who own about 40% of its capital. We have had a similar discussion in this forum in respect of the credit card division of SBI a few months ago and unlike the SBI card division, the UTI bank cannot even be called a subsidiary company of its promoters,

Depending on the subject matter of information required, sometimes it is possible to use the services of other public authorities, who may have a controlling role over certain areas of operation of the UTI bank. It is precisely for this reason that I wanted the nature of information required to be posted in the forum.

Please also refer to the discussions in the following thread :

    sidmis,

As Ganpat mentioned, can you please elaborate on the information you want from UTI Bank ?

    Hi Sid, Ganpat

Recently the CIC has taken a view that even Stock Exchanges are Public Authority. Which has been vehemently opposed by the all the Sock Exchanges including NSE. The case is pending in the Delhi High Court.

If a Stock Exchange can be made a Public Authority then why the UTI Bank must escape the RTI dragnet?
Though I am not an authority on RTI, I have a suggestion for you.
Try it out first. Apply for RTI to UTI Bank and if they refuse make complain to the CIC. Let the CIC Decide on it.
I don't know. Someone might have done it before. So lookout for it and make your try.

    Helo Karira, Ganpat,

can you please elaborate on the information you want from UTI Bank
I need information from UTI Banks on 'Financial Inclusion' and also "Credit Card" related issues.
Info on these things can be collected from RBI, I suppose, albeit indirectly.
