Is the information pertaining to President Elections vote share covered under RTI

    Dear Informaticians,

We RTIINDIA.ORG members welcome and congratulate the First time first Lady of our Republic ..HE Smt Prathibha Shahrawat nee Patil..

I would also like to enlighten that this was the most contiguous President elections in the history of India. No one has won with such a close margin ever before. Last closest margin was during election of HE Ex-POI Dr S D Sharma.

The reason being that there were some cross voting within the alliance thus setting new trends of variations anticipated in Coalition politics.

My Query off course is not on Coalition Politics, but I hunted to discern that can we know under RTI act that ……Who caste vote for whom? Or Is the People’s representative or constituent of President electoral college vote caste are divulged after the election for Public information?

    Pl DO let everyone know

There is no harm to try. Since each vote case by the representative is on behalf of the entire group of people of India whom he represents. I guess, it should be a public record. These same citizens who voted this representative have a right to know whom he voted for.

Why dont you try and see what reply you get. Accordingly we can decide our next move. Or file a fresh application by another applicant.

if by 'contiguous' you mean 'very closely fought', this election was not the closest ever. in fact we have had previous elections which were closer. zkir hussain won over kota subba rao by about 1.08 lakh votes in 1967. vv giri managed to win by even narrower margin of about 0.89 lakh votes. shankar dayal sharma romped home with quite a decent margin - about 3.3 lakh votes and so did pratibha patil with about 3.57 lakh votes.

cross voting is a settled fact whether in coalition or not. forgot vv giri and conscience votes?

presidential election is by secret ballot. so the quetion of making public the votes cast is out of question. rti act cannot give you information on who voted for whom as the information is not recorded anywhere. its just like you vote for your MLA; just that the votes for presidential election are transferable; instead of marking the election symbol, the MLA and MPs mark order of preference against each contestant.

dont bother trying rti act here.
