Student murder to rock Karnataka House

The murder of a 17-year-old college student in 2014 is set to rock the forthcoming Karnataka Assembly session, slated to begin in Belgaum from June 29. Yallalinga Kuruba, who was killed on January 11, 2014, was conducting RTI inquiries into suspected irregularities in the implementation of the MGNREGA scheme in the Hullihyder gram panchayat in the north Karnataka district of Koppal. The opposition BJP and the JDS have indicated that they will raise the matter in the state legislature over allegations of involvement of state’s Minor Irrigation Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi in the case.

This former zilla panchayat president Hanumesh Nayak, is not a human but a butcher who murdered an innocent young student.

Opposition demands minister's scalp over Koppal RTI activist's murder

BELAGAVI: Opposition parties in the legislative council on Wednesday stepped up pressure on the Siddaramaiah government to hand over the alleged murder case of Yallaling, an RTI activist and student of Koppal, to the CBI. They also wanted Koppal district minister Shivaraj Tangadagi dropped from the cabinet for allegedly trying to shield the accused in the case.

BJP members, including leader of opposition in the council KS Eshwarappa, said Yallalinga of Kanakagiri village was killed by miscreants for raising his voice against corruption in the gram panchayat. He was found dead on the railway track on January 10, and to hush up the matter, his body was hurriedly cremated despite opposition from his family, they alleged.

A dead student, a ‘missing’ RTI plea, graft charges, some politics

    Written by Santosh Kumar R B | Koppal (karnataka) | Updated: July 5, 2015 8:42 am
Five days before he died, 17-year-old Yallalinga Kuruba, a college student, told a local TV channel called Suvarna Siri that there was widespread corruption in the implementation of government projects in his impoverished village of Kanakapura, in Hullihyder gram panchayat of Koppal district in north Karnataka.
“This is the main road of our village,’’ he said, pointing to a mud path with sewage flowing through it. “It is about a kilometre long, and the entire stretch is in this condition. There is no drainage system in the village. The drains flow on the road. We struggle on these roads every day. No form of development touches our village,’’ he told the channel.
