    Augment coaches, says RTI activist

    The unprecedented rush of pilgrims going for the Godavari Pushkarams from north Andhra and Visakhapatnam could be addressed by augmentation of coaches to regular trains running with less number of coaches.

    Many reserved ‘pushkaram’ passengers cancelled their tickets even as others travelled without tickets. The long queues at the booking counters and the prospect of missing their trains must have made them decide to travel without tickets, even if that meant paying penalties.

    Over 200 reserved passengers from Duvvada cancelled their tickets on Monday and Tuesday, resulting in a loss of about Rs.50,000 to ECoR at Duvvada station,” says RTI activist K. Eswar. The passengers could not board the train as many passengers were squatting on the floor of the coaches.Read more at;

    It is a daily feature in reserved compartment at UP,MP and Bihar. (Occupation of ticket less travellers in Reserved compartments) Duvvada is just few hours away (3 hours) and as Transport through Tourism/RTC authorities are more comfortable, they might have opted and after stampede deaths many might have cancelled their tickets. (At a city like Visakhapatnam, that number of cancellation is not too much)

    I think people of country want more numbers of coaches and trains. They do not want Bullet /super fast trains like in Japan. Hungry person wants simple food and not 'Pakvan, Chhapan Bhog'.

    To-day as per their demand, they have introduced special train from our place, and out of 12 reserved compartments, I was told that only 12 persons purchased tickets, and the train left with 12 passengers and 30 CRPF and one officer in charge to Rajahmundry. What can one say about these demands and actual position. On line Railway site shows all trains are booked. May be as the cost is just Rs.100/- most of the passengers that it may not be a great loss to them but what about railways that has run that train.

    Sir, you will not believe but in Maharashtra and Gujarat picture is different. A heavy rush of passengers remain on railway station. No sufficient trains and coaches.

    The position in other days is not different here too. But frenzy, religion is intoxication, vote catching, diverting attention, several things not known to common are associated.
    After the stampede deaths, entire chief minister , cabinet colleagues, DGP and all other top officials including secretaries are at Rajahmundry, leaving all other works only to supervise arrangements. The unfortunate thing is that stampede deaths are due to lack of co-ordination and jealousies just between two officers, as one is overlooking arrangements only, and the other distributing only passes. When there are tens of ghats, every one wanted to use the nearest ghat to the station, where CM is taking bath.
    Some strange things can not be interpreted the, the catholic politician immediately after getting CBI permission and going to Jerusalem returned back to Pushkar to offer Pindapradan to his elders at Rajahmundry. Another leader who has lost his own father's brother's wife attended the opening function and taken a dip with a religious guru, though he was advised that he should not undertake such baths during first ten days after death in his own family.
