MP wants officials to be sensitised on RTI
HYDERABAD: Congress MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar on Sunday faulted officials for failing to promptly furnish information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act and wanted the administrative machinery to implement the statute in letter and spirit.

While the Centre had enacted the Act with an intention to give access to information of Government’s functioning, officials were yet to get tuned to it. Moreover, they were trying to delay the process by raising questions relating public interest and locus standi of the applicant, he said.
Participating in a “Meet-The-Press” programme organised by the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists here on Sunday, he wanted the Government to instruct the officials to act on the petitions.

The extensive use of the provision by people, media in particular, to bring out facts would go a long way in its effective implementation.
Responding to queries, he said he was not at all happy with the progress in his “struggle” against Margadarsi Financiers and its chit fund business as the results were not encouraging. Officials concerned were reluctant to act against Eenadu group chairman Ramoji Rao, probably, because of the latter’s influence.

In this context, he alleged that promoters of Margadarsi Financiers were yet to open an escrow account as assured to the Supreme Court.
