The examination was conducted for the selection of candidates for the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police. </TD><TD class=news vAlign=top width=5></TD><TD align=right width=94>


    </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR><TR><TD class=news vAlign=top colSpan=2>Some candidates who had written the examination had complained that a male candidate, Suresh Kumar Choubey, a resident of Bilaspur, was selected by the Chhattisgarh PSC in the women's quota.

    </TD></TR><TR><TD class=news vAlign=top colSpan=2>On receiving the complaint, the PSC asked the State Home department to conduct an inquiry to ascertain the gender of the said candidate.

    </TD></TR><TR><TD class=news vAlign=top colSpan=2>However, the commission officials said the allegation appeared to be a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the PSC. Taking a serious view of the allegation, the commission has decided to issue the appointment letter only after obtaining a medical certificate from the said candidate, sources added. However, official sources pointed out that it was not for any department to conduct a medical examination as the PSC's role was only to select the candidates.

    </TD></TR><TR><TD class=news vAlign=top colSpan=2>Suresh Kumar Choubey was supposed to appear before a medical board for health check-up last Friday. However, Choubey didn't turn up for the check-up, sources confirmed.

    </TD></TR><TR><TD class=news vAlign=top colSpan=2>While Choubey has claimed to be a woman in his application form, doubts were raised by some applicants about his gender. Now the commission has asked the Home Department to conduct a medical test.

    </TD></TR><TR><TD class=news vAlign=top colSpan=2>A total of 45 candidates were selected for the post of DSP. Interestingly, Choubey ranked fourth in the merit list of selected candidates.

    </TD></TR><TR><TD class=news vAlign=top colSpan=2>The Chhattisgarh PSC has been in the news as politicians and candidates have from time to time raised issues of irregularity in the selection procedures of the commission. It was over one such allegation that the then PSC chairman and a former DGP, Ashok Darbari, was suspended on the recommendation of the State Government.

    Even if he escape the PSC, it is obligatory for him to undergo Medical Test before appointment.
