Vodafone, RTI on NADT curriculum

NAGPUR: Officer trainees at NADT will have some novel courses this year, one of which would be on ‘Mergers and Acquisitions'. "We will show the trainees a case study of Vodafone and discuss how mergers and acquisitions take place vis-a-vis the worldwide laws," a trainer said.

"Another interesting module this year would be the one of Right To Information. We will discuss how it is in the larger interest of the public that income tax officers should have complete transparency," he added. Said a senior officer at NADT, "Confidentiality breeds corruption and trainees will be taught on how to be honest and share information with the common man on the taxation process. The need of the hour is to sensitise the officer trainees who will one day head income-tax offices across the country." The NADT is perhaps one of the few institutions which is laying stress on RTI in its curriculum for trainees.

Some of the other unique courses would be the one of ‘tax deduction at source/tax collection at source'. NADT's director general Saroj Bala said: "The Indian Railways is a big department and we found that their TDS collections were low. There was a lack of general awareness on various provisions under TDS, because of which we have developed a pioneer course on the subject." The training is now being imparted at all levels in government organisations.
