  1. Can CIC be granted extension

    I was wondering weather the chief Information commissioner if he completes his tenure of 5 years before he attaints the age of 65 years, can he be granted extension?

    And what about Information commissioner?

  2. No. The chief Information commissioner is not eligible for extension of tenure or re-appointment. This will not debar him from being appointed to any other Government Service or public office.
    Also for Information commissioner same condition apply

    I was also wondering weather President appoints only the serving or retired officer of the Government or can he appoint outsider?

  4. The Officer can be both serving or retired officer including those of the armed forces, Judiciary, and Research establishments. Persons other than from Government service may also be appointed.

  5. Do you have information how many outsiders are there at CIC right now?

    After 65 no -one is generally given an extension! This is a healthy convention which must be followed for all! In fact it should apply even to other Constitutional Authorities1
