    Dear Forum Members,
    I know there are many threads on this topic already so apologies for starting a fresh one. I have go thru them all and all of them are very informative.

    I have not dealt much with any govt office much so do not have much experience of the same. SO please forgive me if they seem so simple and naive.

    So, I would be grateful if someone let me know the following :

    1. How do I get the receipt of the RTI filed ? as in the proof of me requesting the RTI. Do I carry a copy of my application and get it stamped ?
    2. How do I escalate in case no response on RTI from Income Tax office ?

    3. Query to people having experience in filing RTI against IT Dept Pune : To whom and how to pay Rs. 10 ?

    4. Do I have to go during weekdays and meet the CPIO or submit the application personally ? Can I not just courier the same ?

    5. I have read somewhere that RTI can be filed thru Post Office as well. Is it any Post Office or some designated Offices only ?

    1. Receipt of RTI filed can be a rubber stamp and signature on your copy.
    Please ensure that the person signing also puts a date of receipt.

    2. In case of no response to RTI application within 30 days, please file First Appeal
    with the First Appeal Officer. The details of the FAA will be given on the website
    or on a board displayed at the IT office.

    4. RTI application can be submitted personally during office working hours.
    You can also send the application by Registered Post AD so that the AD card (after
    it is returned to you) acts as a proof of delivery of your RTI Application.

    5. RTI applications for Central Govt. departments can be submitted at the designated Post Office in your city (Generally the Head Post Office or the GPO). For details, please see:

    You can also enclose Postal Order of Rs 10 and give the reference in the application. Let the payee name be blank. The office can fill the appropriate details and realize. To ensure it is not misused keep a photostat copy of the Postal Order

    Some additional points:

    4. By what date can I expect my refund to be given ?

    5. Please find enclosed herewith D/D, B/C, IPO, Cash for Rs 10.00 Nr.....Dtd......towards payment of application fee for this application.

    Hallow,
    In this application I think following is to be added.

    - Date of the assesment order and date of refund.

    By this we can come to know for how many days cheque was kept pending and we can claim interest on refund.

    You have addresed the application to a wrong person. probably it may be redirected to a right Person as per provisons in RTI ACT. For ur information: since August 2007 assessee's assessing officer is PIO and not CIT.

    I gave that information about CIT being the PIO because that is what it still says on the Income Tax website. It has not been updated as yet. But news reports already mentioned that the assessing officer is the PIO.
