MNIT ordered to provide selection process proceedings open
Jaipur (PTI): Central Information Commission has asked a technical institute here to provide the information of selection process conducted for the post of Reader and Professor under the Right to Information Act.
CIC Commissioner O P Kejariwal issued show cause notice to the Malyvia National Institute of Technology (MNIT), asking them that why penalty should not be imposed on them for the delay caused in providing required information by Dr M K Shrimali, a Reader, according to an official communiqui here on Saturday.
CIC also authorised the appellant to receive photocopies of the documents that he desires free of the cost in view of the delay which has taken place in disclosing the information.
Shrimali, the appellant, had filed a RTI application with the Public Information Officer of MNIT here, on March 9, 2007, seeking certified copy of the recommendations of the selection committee for the post of Reader and Professor in the Department of Structural Engineering, MNIT.
The PIO denied the information saying it was a personal information of Shrimali and not for the public interest.
Appellant filed an second appeal with the Central Information Commission on September 18, 2007.
The commission noted that there was a delay of almost a month beyond the period prescribed for reply in the RTI Act.
The commission overruled that the information is in public domain. It, therefore, directed the MNIT to open up the concerned files for the appellant and to provide him the information that he desired by February 15.
