    HSLC examinees can use RTI Act this year

    HSLC examinees can use RTI Act this year

    GUWAHATI, Feb 5 – Now on, the candidates of HSLC Examinations will be able to get Photostat copies of their answer scripts by applying the Rights to Information (RTI) Act. Stating this at a meeting of the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) officers and employees here today Education Minister Ripun Bora said that officers of the Board and the Council should remain alert all the time while discharging their duties in view of the above provision.

    According to an official press release, the Minister also told the officers to ask the examiners to be careful while evaluating the answer scripts.

    Addressing the meeting presided over by SEBA chairman Bhuban Chandra Konwar, AHSEC chairman Mohsin Ali advised the officers and employees of the Board and the Council not to be disheartened with the misleading news that used to bewilder the people during the school final examinations nowadays.

    Director of the State Madrassa Board Balendra Kumar Das made an appeal to the examiners to become liberal while evaluating the answer scripts. Explaining the purpose of the meeting, SEBA secretary Dhanadev Mahanta focused on the preparations for the ensuing HSLC Examinations.

    In all, 3,55, 120 examinees will sit for the HSLC starting on February 15. Of them, 2,41,967 are regular ones with 1,04,446 appearing as private candidates. In the High Madrassa Examination, the number of total examinees this time is 6,337.

    The SEBA will hold the two examinations at 758 centres and it will deploy 908 supervising officers, 69 zonal supervising officers and 26 district zonal officers, he said.

    AHSEC secretary Uccharan Deka also informed the meeting that the preparations for the Higher Secondary Examinations were also complete.

    The meeting was also addressed by Joint Secretary of the Education Department Sorab Ali, said the press release.

    Welcome move.
    Although not required under law, this only shows that Officers are also being encouraged by RTI and taking suo moto action on steps towards more transparency.
