    R K Garg,

Since the "appropriate government" has the right to frame the rules, it must also have the rights to amend the rules.

    Please see the following thread:

    http://www.rtiindia.org/forum/2942-c...es-2005-a.html

Probably you can take up the matter, along with the other activists based in Chandigarh, referred to in the news reports.

the appropriate government has every right to modify the fees as it sees fit. the only way to tackle it is through concerted action by the public. raise the issue in the media, make open appeals to the government, represent through political and social groups. meet the chief administrator and impress upon him the need to bring down the fees to original level. collective representation and not confrontation is what is needed

    R.K.garg ji,

You better take the help of Press and Electronic Media.

compare the xerox charges (in market it is 50 paise per copy), Rs.2/- per copy 4 times than market. But Rs.10 per copy means making money from the needy citizen who are in need of information.

Individual fight may take decades to give result.

    R k Garg ji,

I think, UTs means under Central Government, so all Central Government rullings in RTI. i.e.Rs.10/- application fee, Rs.2/- per a4 size certified copy. etc.,

    rakatkam.
