Romesh Sharma Uses RTI
Romesh uses RTI to seek info about jail guard's 'complicity'

NEW DELHI: Days after being convicted for plotting to kill his fashion designer girlfriend, former Congressman and alleged Dawood-aide Romesh Sharma seems to have found other ways to keep himself busy inside prison.
In an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) act, Sharma has reportedly sought details about the action taken against the security guard who accompanied him to the visitor’s hall when he allegedly hatched the conspiracy to kill Kunjum Budhraj.
Sharma is lodged in the high security ward of the Rohini Jail complex, where he is serving a life term. In the RTI application filed with the Tihar Jail administration, he has asked pointed questions like whether an accused or undertrial prisoner lodged in the high security ward is accompanied by two security guards when visitors come to meet him during visiting hours.
Further, if the guard is present near the prisoner, is the conversation audible and is the distance between the visitor and prisoner kept at two feet? Sources said the application demands information on whether the guard who accompanied him the day he allegedly conspired to murder Kunjum Budhraj has been interrogated by the police or charged under sections of conspiracy. The application demands details on the charges against the guard.
Though Sharma has still not got a reply for his RTI application, the Tihar administration remained non-committal about the reply. "Such an application was received from Romesh Sharma but we would not like to comment on it," said Sunil Kumar Gupta, Tihar Jail's spokesperson and law officer.
Sharma, meanwhile, is serving a life term in the Kunjum Budhraj murder case and is lodged in the high security ward of Rohini Jail. On the day Budhraj was murdered, i.e. March 20, 1999, Sharma was in Tihar Jail where he was taken after arrest in connection with another criminal case.
A city court hearing the case had agreed with the prosecution that Sharma, along with his nephew and another aide Dolly had hatched a conspiracy to kill Budhraj. According to the case files, he had given "instructions for the murder from inside prison" and also written a letter to Budhraj asking her to go to his south Delhi farmhouse to perform a puja. She was murdered the same day.
