MSEDCL choosy in dispensing with maintenance material
Pune, April 24 A question has been raised about the seriousness with which Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) goes about its maintenance work in Pune. And the prime reason could be the utility’s reluctance to supply its three circles in the city with critical material for proper maintenance of its distribution lines.
“It is evident that in spite of Pune being the highest revenue payer for MSEDCL in the state, the maintenance scene is in a pathetic condition and this leads to frequent supply interruptions,” said Vivek Velankar, who had had filed an RTI application with the MSEDCL
Information sought under the RTI Act by Sajag Nagrik Manch (SNM), a city-based voluntary organisation, from the MSEDCL regarding pre-monsoon material provided to all the three circles in Pune zone has revealed that the utility has provided only 30 per cent of the required material during the first six months of 2007.
The information sought was for January- June 2007 regarding the actual material provided against the requirement of the three circles of MSEDCL, namely Rasta Peth, Ganeshkhind and Pune rural. While the MSEDCL provided only 13 out of 40 items to Rasta Peth, Ganeshkhind also got the same number of items against a demand of 61 items. Pune rural got 20 items against its demand of 49 items.
Some critical items were not provided at all such as LT cable of different sizes, reveals the RTI. While the transformer oil requirement put forth by Rasta Peth circle was 50 kilo litres, it was provided with 35 kilo litres.
