One of my colleague has been assigned the duties of Cash Peon in my bank. His duty is to make bundles of 10 packets each and keep the same in the bins after due verification by the concerned official. Then the bins are locked by the concerned officer alongwith another officer who is the joint custodian. The keys are always with the two designated officers. Very surprisingly during one routine checking it was found out that there was some shortage of cash. Now the management has issued a show-cause notice to the cash-peon stating that there are lapses in discharging his duties properly.
It is very surprising that the cash peon is served with a show cause notice although after due verification the cash was kept in the bins and keys were with the two designated officers. The bins are always opened and keeing and taking out the notes are done in presence of the designated officers. Then how a poor soul like a cash peon will be served with a show-cause notice.
